Volcano PH Info, a new monitoring app for volcano activity in the Philippines, has been launched by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Due to the app’s real-time volcano advisories, users will receive push notifications regarding the latest volcanic activity, even before updates are posted on social media platforms.
VolcanoPH Info provides users with information on the Philippines’ active volcanoes, including alert levels, a 24-hour summary, specific monitoring parameters, and safety recommendations.
These data will be derived from Phivolcs’ Volcano Monitoring Network records and expert surveys.
The user is shown monitoring parameters such as seismicity and the number of volcanic earthquakes detected, acidity and temperature levels in the crater, sulfur dioxide emitted by the volcano, and the level of the volcanic plume.
According to Phivolcs, the app will also provide information on other potential hazards associated with volcanoes, such as ground deformation, sinking, or swelling of the ground caused by magma, gas, or fluids moving beneath, as well as fault movement.
While the VolcanoPH Info mobile app is only available on Android devices, iOS is also considered for iPhones and iPads.
