Speedy Performance that Captures Decisive Moments
a6400

The new Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera's impressive autofocus system incorporates several technologies from Sony's latest full-frame camera lineup, including the 9, 7R III, and 7 III models.

The new camera integrates 425 phase-detection and 425 contrast-detection AF points densely packed throughout the image area, covering approximately 84 percent.

This high-speed, high-performance tracking AF system, combined with the camera's new-generation BIONZ X image processing engine, enables the camera to acquire focus in as little as 0.02 seconds and maintain subject lock extremely effectively, ensuring that even the fastest moving subjects can be tracked and captured with ease.

The Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera features advanced "Real-time Eye AF," Sony's acclaimed Eye AF technology in its latest iteration.

This innovative new capability uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and process eye data in real-time, increasing Eye AF accuracy, speed, and tracking performance.

With a half-press of the shutter button, the camera automatically detects and activates the subject's eyes in all autofocus modes.

When in AF-C or AF-A mode, the subject's preferred eye (left or right) can be selected as the focus point.

Auto / Right Eye / Left Eye are available as options, and a Switch Right / Left Eye function can also be assigned to a custom function.

This transformative new technology completely frees the photographer to concentrate entirely on composition, secure in the knowledge that the subject's eye will be in focus.

Eye AF support for animals will be added via a system software update in summer 2019, making it ideal for wildlife photographers.

Sony's newly developed "Real-time Tracking" is also making its debut on the a6400.

This mode makes use of Sony's most advanced algorithm, which integrates artificial intelligence (AI)-based object recognition, and processes Color, subject distance (depth), pattern (brightness), and spatial information to ensure that all subjects can be captured with high accuracy.

When photographing or filming humans or animals, AI recognizes their faces and eye positions, and the subject's eye is tracked in real-time with extreme precision.

This can be triggered with a simple half-press of the shutter button or assigned to a custom function.

All-around Advancements in Image Quality
a6400

Sony's new a6400 camera features a 24.2 MP3 APS-C image sensor paired with an upgraded BIONZ X processor for incredible image quality and color reproduction in all shooting conditions.

The standard ISO range is ISO 32000 for still images and ISO 102400 for video, with excellent noise reduction at medium and high sensitivities.

Additionally, the camera inherits several of Sony's latest full-frame image processing algorithms, significantly reducing noise while maintaining resolution and improving texture depiction.

Advanced High-Resolution 4K Movie Recording
a6400

The versatile Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera is an exceptional video camera that records internal 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) movies with full pixel readout and no pixel binning.

It collects approximately 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K movies and then oversamples it to create high-quality 4K footage with exceptional detail and depth.

Thanks to upgraded Fast Hybrid AF technology, focusing is quick and stable during movie shooting, maintaining a smooth focus regardless of the scene or whether an object crosses in front of the camera.

This advanced autofocus system, combined with touch focus, makes it an ideal camera for many vloggers and video creators who constantly create and upload content online.

The new camera includes a built-in interval recording that can be set between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots ranging from 1 to 9999.

During interval shooting, the AE tracking sensitivity can be set to "High," "Mid," or "Low," allowing for minor variation in exposure over the shooting interval.

Additionally, the new model includes an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile for the first time in a Sony APS-C mirrorless camera, enabling an Instant HDR workflow and allowing HDR (HLG) compatible TVs to playback beautiful, true-to-life 4K HDR imagery.

Additionally, S-Log2 and S-Log3 are supported for increased Color grading flexibility, as are Zebra, Gamma Display Assist, and proxy recording.

Additionally, the camera can record Full HD at 120 frames per second at up to 100 Mbps, allowing footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow-motion video files with AF tracking in Full HD resolution.

Upgraded Build to Maximize Versatility
a6400

To maximize shooting freedom, the new camera offers extensive functionality and customization.

The Sony a6400 Mirrorless Camera has a fully tiltable 3.0-type LCD flip screen with a 921k-dot resolution for both still and video capture.

This feature allows vloggers to check and monitor composition throughout the creative process.

The LCD screen also has touch features like TouchPad, Touch Focus, Touch Shutter, and Touch Tracking, enabling "Real-time Tracking" via the touch screen.

New My Dial and My Menu functionality, improved menu usability, a help screen for menus, image star rating, and other features contribute to a fluid shooting experience.

It is also dust and moisture resistant and has a shutter with a life expectancy of around 200,000 cycles.

It can also transfer files to smartphones or tablets via the new 'Imaging Edge Mobile' application.
